Zinedine Yazid Zidane (born 23 June 1972) is broadly considered as one of the best midfield players of the last decade. His professional football career started in AS Cannes in 1988 where he played his first Ligue 1 match at age seventeen. In 1992 Zidane was transferred to Bordeaux for 7 million where he played with Lizarazu and Dugarry which would later become the trademark of the 1998 World Cup winning French national team.
In 1996, Zidane moved to Champions League winners Juventus for a fee of £3.2 million after waiting for an offer from AC Milan that did not come. Zidane participated in three consecutive Champion League finals with Juventus where all three were lost. Last final lost 0-1 to Real Madrid.
In 2001 Zidane joined Real Madrid and scored the winning goal in Madrid´s 2-1 victory over Bayern Leverkussen in the 2002 UEFA Champions League final in his forth final in row. Second season Zidane was named the FIFA World Player of the Year for the third time as well winning the Spanish league title.
Zidane retired following FIFA World Cup 2006 after losing the final to Italy and being awarded the Golden Ball as the best player of the competition.
